The Truth about Soul Mates

People think a soul mate is your perfect fit and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you will ever meet because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

One of the most common questions I am asked is “When will I find my soul mate?” My first response is always the same, “Be careful what you ask for.” This is because soul mate relationships can be the most challenging ones of our lives. These relationships can bring us the most profound joy and the most devastating pain. They also bring with them the opportunity to experience the deepest love, expansive growth, and a sense of connection to another soul that no other relationship can offer.

We all have numerous soul mates that come and go in our lives. They come in the guise of parents, siblings, friends, teachers, lovers, and even enemies. They come because we invite them in to help us learn, to evolve, and to love. Though this relationship is rarely pain free, it is full of wonder and joy as well. So take on the challenge. It may be the most incredible experience of your life.
